Ryder's quest to save humanity from certain doom after a space colonization effort is compelling. Of course, this isn't what many Mass Effect fans want the franchise to focus on, so it's good that there is a narrative worth following here as long as players come in with the right expectations. Gaining new abilities and updating weapons both stay fun throughout the story, making Andromeda better than the average action experience. This makes sense considering the focus publisher Electronic Arts placed on multiplayer, but it benefits the single-player story all the same. The ability to jet around planets feels liberating when compared to past entries, and the third-person shooting has never been better.
